Modern Scandinavian Farmhouse Build Inspiration Board
This future farmhouse of ours has been quite a journey! If you've been following our blog for a while you know that we've had some bumps in the road- from delays to getting our dreams crushed by budget issues. The benefit to this has been that it's given us time to really think about and envision our future home and the way we want it to feel.
In the past year, we've had a big shift in our lifestyle - embracing a more minimalist approach and finding a greater appreciation of the Scandinavian concept of hygge. We didn't realize that this mindset change would have such an impact on how we'd design our home.
So, we FINALLY have for you an inspiration board for what we're calling our modern scandinavian farmhouse.

It's a mix of elements of a modern Midwestern farmhouse paired with some mid-century Scandinavian vibes. We realized that our move to the country surrounded by trees needs a design style that embraces the nature around us and felt cozy and contemporary.
Some of the elements of our home design we're most excited about?
- Big windows that overlook rows and rows of evergreen trees
- A wood-burning stove that acts as a focal point of a vaulted ceiling living room
- Barn-door sliders to offer separation between spaces
- Tying in sentimental reclaimed wood from the farm's former structures
- Playing with pattern in a mudroom/laundry room entryway
- A bold dark exterior and cedar accents that look like a cozy Norwegian cabin
We've been trying to keep things fairly timeless since this will be our forever home. We plan on incorporating a lot of the trend and design elements through decor and accents.
Kyle has completely mapped out & created a 3-D rendering of our floorplan with a website called Homestyler. It's been very helpful to get a better understanding of available space, layouts, and envision what rooms may actually look like. With our future blog content we'll be showing you room-by-room 3D rendering of the inspiration for our home.
