Hello Dolly Bars Recipe
Some call them magic cookie bars or seven layer bars... but in my family they're hello dollies. Every year my nana would make them for Christmas .Eventually, it turned into something I'd make every year with my mom and sister. Now, that I live a thousand miles from home, I've made it a tradition of my own as I celebrate the holidays.
Though I'm pretty sure the recipe originated from the back of the condensed milk can, making them to honor my nana's memory makes these treats evens sweeter. I look forward to making them every year. I love them best served warm with a cup of coffee.
HELLO DOLLY BARS
1/2 cup melted butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 1/3 cups shredded coconut
1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees and coat a 13 x 9" pan with nonstick cooking spray
2. Combine melted butter and graham crackers and firmly press onto the bottom of the baking pan.
3. Pour sweetened condensed milk over the crumb mixture. Next, layer with chocolate & butterscotch chips, coconut, and nuts.
4. Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned on top. Let cool, then cut into squares.
If i'm feeling a bit splurge-y I'll go for Ghiradelli chocolate chips, which my mom swears make a difference. These are so decadent and delicious, but it's just not Christmas without them in my house!
