Our Rustic Modern Holiday Decor
Christmas has always been our favorite time of year. We had only been dating for a few months and It was my first holiday season away from home. I desperately wanted my house to feel festive and cheery. I bought the saddest, cheapest little Christmas tree at Walmart in my attempts to bring the holidays to my little bachelorette pad. Kyle came over to help me decorate (and made another trip to the store with me when we quickly realized I needed another set of lights.. whoops).
Each year we've slowly traded up from our hand-me-down decorations and discovered our own holiday decor style. We love rustic, natural elements with a little bit of traditional tartan in the mix. We're excited to see how our holiday design style evolves when we move into our sweet little farmhouse.
Right now, we decorate within a small space. So, we have to do what we can to transform our living room for the holidays. Our floating wood shelves normally house faux succulent plants, picture frames, and candles. We update them from the holidays by adding burlap wrapped trees, hanging faux fur stockings (a $3 score from Target!), and a classic wood nutcracker. This year we opted for a "slim" design tree, which is the perfect size for our space. We gave it a rustic feel with homemade woodburned ornaments and painted pinecones.
Someday, we'll decorate our entire home for the holidays, hang greenery over the entry ways, and have holiday candles glowing all the time. For now, we're just so thankful to be spending our first Christmas as newlyweds.
